Yaziid Wakaima (1885-1979) is the Ugandan Muslim who is best remembered for preparing ‘Pilau’, a delicacy made of specially prepared rice and other ingredients, to Pope John Paul VI when he visited Uganda in 1969. Yaziid was to live his life proudly narrating to his friends how proud he was for the opportunity to prepare the food for the Pope.
